A primary goal for beginning practitioner is creating a sense of movement along the continuum. To achieve this, the therapist makes a timeline from the client’s experiences then explore it using the most relevant questions. Then the treatment plan is formed with the issues role by the client.
The time line allows an emotional issue to be explored in its original context as a point along the continuum rather than as an end in itself. One advantage of using a timeline is that it helps the therapist keep a sense of direction during stages of exploration when emotional issues may be raised before a therapeutic direction has been defined.
